Pediatric speech therapy services

No two children are the same so no two treatment plans should be the same. At Wise Choice Speech Therapy we take the time to get to know both you and your child. Through the initial evaluation we will get a better understanding of the problems you are both facing and the outcomes you are hoping to achieve.

Our services and treatment plans are targeted at building your child's confidence while working to strengthen their communication weaknesses.

Speech sound disorder

Also known as articulation and phonological disorders, children with speech sound disorders have difficulty saying certain sounds and words. This can make it hard to understand what a child is trying to say. A child may add, delete, distort or change, or substitute one sound for another. For example, they may say "tat" for "cat","tar" for "star", or "thith" for "this".

In therapy we work to produce each sound accurately by itself, in words, phrases, and eventually in sentences and conversation. We also teach children to tell when sounds are right or wrong as children with speech sound disorders may have trouble with processing the speech sounds, they hear.

Children with speech sound disorders are at increased risk for reading difficulties. A speech therapist can work on phonological awareness and phonemic awareness to build pre literacy skills or to help children who are having difficulty reading.

In-Person and Teletherapy

Individual in-person therapy

We provide individual speech and language therapy sessions at our clinic located at:

312 Amboy Ave STE C

Metuchen, NJ

Teletherapy

Teletherapy is a great option for families who need therapy but want to maintain social distancing, or if you are unable to travel to our clinic. Teletherapy is an option for patients in any location as long as you reside in the state of New Jersey. This gives you the opportunity to meet with the therapist "face-to-face" over a secure connection.

Studies have shown that teletherapy is just as effective as in-person therapy. The Efficacy of Telehealth-Delivered Speech and Language Intervention for Primary School-Age Children: A Systematic Review concluded that there no significant disparity between online therapy (teletherapy) and in-office face-to-face therapy for primary school-aged children with speech and language disorders. The study did show that both groups made significant and similar progress with speech therapy.
